Mandarin Meditation for the Mind session.
WU BINGHENG In the last two quarters, I had the chance to support UCSB international students by participating in the Mandarin Meditation for the Mind series, which is a Mandarin-guided wellness space designed for Mandarin speakers.
Each Friday in SRB 1238, students gathered on yoga mats to explore meditation, stretching, and topics like sleep hygiene and homesickness. We aimed to create an environment that felt like home by using our first language.
In a room with cozy pillows, warm tea, and people who shared similar backgrounds, we built an inclusive community, and this experience reminded me how vital it is to create spaces where everyone feels heard, supported, and safe.
FROM THE GGC BOARD Bingheng has made a meaningful contribution to the international student community by organizing the Mandarin Meditation Event, aimed at providing culturally and linguistically accessible mental health support. As a Mandarin-speaking international student, they recognized the need for meditation resources tailored to their peers and took the initiative to lead sessions, carefully crafting scripts to ensure a calming experience. Despite challenges with language inclusivity, they adapted their promotional materials to better communicate the event’s purpose. We congratulate Bingheng on their great achievements this year.
