The Associated Students Global Gaucho Commission is recruiting for the 2026-27 school year! This is a great opportunity to build professional work skills and support the international student community. Our open positions include Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, Communications Director, Policy Director, Design Specialist and Project Officer. Who is eligible to apply?
To participate as a member of Associated Students UCSB, applicants must be undergraduate students currently enrolled in at least 6 units and must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0. Applicants cannot simultaneously hold a position on the A.S. Senate.
Is this a paid position?
Regular members of Associated Students do not receive salaries. However, Chairs are eligible for a quarterly honorarium of up to $450 and other officers are eligible for up to $300.
Can international students without US citizenship apply? Will joining Associated Students affect my immigration status?
Yes, international students on an F-1 visa are encouraged to apply. Appointed members of the GGC Board do not receive salaries, so there will be no effect to your immigration status. However, F-1 students without a Social Security Number are encouraged to apply for an ITIN in order to receive honoraria payment. If you have more questions, please consult an advisor in the Office of International Students and Scholars.
Can I apply for more than one position?
Yes, you are more than welcome to. Just submit the form again to apply for another position.
Do you need prior experience to apply?
No, we do not require applicants to have prior experience, though it would be helpful. We are looking for passionate students who are committed to fostering an inclusive and safe space for international students through advocacy and creative initiatives.
What happens after I apply?
The Recruitment Committee will review applications on a rolling basis and notify promising applicants for an interview in the following weeks.
When will I know the results?
We will notify all applicants of the results before the end of Spring Quarter.
When will the position start?
New Board members for the 2026-27 fiscal year will officially start their positions in the fall of 2026. It is optional for members to work over the summer.
