Byeongchan Kim worked as the A.S. Global Gaucho Commission’s Secretary from Spring 2024 to Spring 2025.
A team cannot function properly without someone to organize its internal workings. In the Global Gaucho Commission, it was Byeongchan Kim who took on this role, tirelessly assisting the Co-Chairs in setting up meetings and keeping track of projects.
Kim was a reliable Secretary who took great responsibility in recording notes at every GGC meeting. His organization skills and ability to track key information contributed to successful project management.
Apart from his administrative achievements, Kim actively participated in GGC projects. He led the efforts on several Exam Boost Stations and took the initiative to plan the GGC Spring Social, a critical event that launched the Global Mentorship Program in the Spring Quarter. Additionally, Kim made it his priority to be present at tabling sessions and often took care of the tabling materials.
Before he joined GGC, Kim gained experience working with the International Students Association. When asked about why he was interested in joining GGC, Kim reflects, “I wanted to help a broader student body.” He did not consider himself to be handy with creative work, so he chose to apply for an administrative role and lent his help wherever it was needed.
Kim appreciates his chance to work and become friends with the GGC Board, and envisions GGC will continue to “foster a sense of cosmopolitan citizenship within the student body [at UC Santa Barbara].”
