About GGC

The Global Gaucho Commission is a select group of UC Santa Barbara undergraduate students committed to uplifting and supporting our international student community in their academic journeys. We are an entity of the UCSB Associated Students and are funded by the UCSB undergraduate student body.

Our Mission

Represent and advocate for the international student community at UCSB

GGC advocates for and represents the diverse needs and perspectives of the international student community at UCSB by working to increase visibility and inclusion of international students within campus life, student government, and university decision-making processes.

Stand as a hub reference point for all international students and student groups

GGC serves as a central hub and reference point for international students and internationally focused student organizations by connecting students with campus resources and support systems that contribute to their academic, professional, and personal success. Examples include the creation of the “Navigating UCSB Resources” workshop series, Global Mentorship Program, and our Welcome Package initiative.

Provide international student groups with event/project guidance and funding

GGC supports international student organizations and initiatives by providing guidance on event planning, project development, campus procedures, outreach strategies, and funding opportunities in order to encourage stronger community engagement. Examples include assisting organizations with Associated Students funding processes, co-sponsoring cultural and educational events, advising international student leaders on programming logistics, and launching the Community Contribution Specialist initiative to recognize and financially support students making meaningful contributions to the international student community.

Maintain a working relationship with the Office of International Students and Scholars (OISS) and the Education Abroad Program (EAP) in order to collaboratively engage international student participation and awareness

GGC maintains an active and collaborative working relationship with the Office of International Students and Scholars (OISS) and the Education Abroad Program (EAP) to strengthen international student outreach, increase awareness of available resources and opportunities, and promote greater participation in campus programs. Examples include co-hosting International Education Week programming, establishing regular meetings with OISS leadership, collaborating on resource promotion and outreach efforts, supporting exchange and study abroad student engagement, and working toward long-term institutional partnerships that connect students with international opportunities and campus support systems.
