Global Mentorship Program (GMP)

The Global Mentorship Program (GMP) is a collaborative program between GGC and Health & Wellness. It supports new international and exchange students in their transition to UCSB by pairing them with experienced student mentors. The program focuses on academic navigation, cultural adjustment, and social integration through structured mentorship and community-building events.

GGC Welcome Package

The “Welcome Package” is a GGC branded tote bag given to incoming international students which will be filled with customized merchandise and gifts. The “UCSB Passport” is a passport-themed pamphlet which will be placed inside the tote, overviewing current resources and information assisting international students in their transition to campus life.

GGC Community Contribution Specialist

The GGC Community Contribution Specialist Position is an initiative designed to recognize and support international students who have made meaningful contributions to the UCSB international student community. Through this program, GGC seeks to uplift students who have demonstrated leadership, service, advocacy, and community engagement by supporting fellow international students and fostering a more inclusive campus environment. The program recognizes contributions in areas such as providing career, financial, or academic assistance to international students; organizing events that celebrate international cultures, traditions, and customs; connecting students with university or Associated Students resources; and other substantive efforts that positively impact the international student community. Selected participants will receive a $300 honoraria in recognition of their efforts and dedication to the community.

GGC Navigation Series Workshops

The GGC Navigation Series is a collaborative workshop series designed to help students better navigate campus life and access important resources at UCSB. In collaboration with other campus partners, the series focuses on topics including campus resources, student advocacy, and navigating both on-campus and Isla Vista housing.

Examples:

  • Navigating Housing in Isla Vista (GGC x IVTU)
  • Navigating Finance without an SSN (GGC x CCF)
  • Navigating UCSB Resources (GGC x OSA)

GGC x Living History Project

The Associated Students Living History Project collaborated with the Global Gaucho Commission to document the history and lived experiences of international students at UC Santa Barbara, with a focus on the challenges international students face. This project aims to raise awareness of the unique physical, social and cultural barriers that international students must overcome, including navigating the impact of recent federal policies under the administration.

GGC Midterms/Final Tabling

The GGC Midterms/Final Tabling is a series of outreach events designed to support students during exam season while increasing awareness of the Global Gaucho Commission. During midterms and finals, we table on campus to hand out helpful supplies such as blue books, snacks, energy drinks, and GGC merch to give students an energy boost.

GGC Quarterly Socials

As part of our Global Mentorship Program (GMP) programming, GGC hosts quarterly social events at the beginning of each academic quarter to welcome and connect new international students with the broader UCSB community. These socials are designed to help students build friendships and foster a sense of belonging through casual community-building activities.

GGC Quarterly Study Jams

As part of our Global Mentorship Program (GMP) programming, GGC hosts quarterly study jams at the end of each academic quarter to provide international students with a supportive and collaborative environment during finals season. These study jams, often accompanied with international snacks, are designed to encourage peer connection and promote student well-being by creating a space where students can study together and build community during a high-pressure time of the quarter.
